We are excited to share the news on the first major paper from the Laikipia Rabies Vaccination Campaign (LRVC) published in the prestigious open access journal PLoS (Public Library of Science) Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Over the past 5 years, Mpala has worked closely with a wide range of partners from neighbours, communities, the Laikipia County government, national and international institutions to develop a unified approach towards the eradication of rabies in Laikipia.
Our own Dedan Ngatia has helped lead much of this work here in Kenya and the authors of this paper are drawn from a range of national and international institutions.
As the world currently battles a pandemic also caused by a virus, the success of the LRVC can serve as an example of how to tackle the challenge of diseases using an integrated and grassroots-led approach.
Special thanks to our partners: Veterinarians International, County Government of Laikipia, Smithsonian Institution, Field Museum of Natural History, International Livestock Research Institute, Et al.
