As the first-born son in his family, Taine Mosiany understands the weight of his trajectory. Upon learning about the George Small Fund Scholarship, his priority became scoring top grades with hopes of paving the way towards higher education.
Taine’s final score in the KCSE exams, a B plain, answered his prayers and earned him the GSF Scholarship, covering all school-based costs to attend the Cooperative University of Kenya. With support from Mpala, he recently completed the first year of his Bachelors of Tourism Management.
“If it wasn’t for Mpala, I know more challenges would have faced me at home since my background is not that good,” he shared.
Like many students, the cost of education is a significant barrier to reaching one’s full potential. When school fees are delivered late, students are barred from taking exams and completing their coursework. This scholarship relieves the stress of meeting deadlines, allowing individuals to fully immerse themselves in campus life.
When reflecting on how the GSF Scholarship has impacted him, he said, “I am very grateful…it doesn’t mean we were perfect to be chosen, but I am so grateful to be selected.”
Beyond bringing home a degree, attending university will create ripple effects on Taine’s family, setting a precedent for what’s possible.
“When Mpala sponsored me to campus, it has created a positive mentality to my siblings, hoping that they also join campus in the future.”
After graduating, Taine aspires to work for an international tourism company, where he will return to Laikipia with an inspiring story to share.

George Small Fund Scholarship
As of June, 2025, the GSF Scholarship supports 13 students enrolled in high school and vocational training programs. Last year, Mpala expanded its efforts by awarding full university scholarships to two high school graduates from our local communities. Taine is one of them.
