Labs & Infrastructure

Living Laboratory at Mpala

Mpala Research Centre maintains four research facilities for visiting scientists, students, and partner institutions. Each lab supports specific methods and is shared across active projects, with booking handled through the Research Team.

Molecular Genomics Lab

Field-based genomics workflows including PCR and full sequencing. Removes the bottleneck of sending samples to distant labs — researchers run experiments on-site and get results in hours rather than weeks.

Wet Lab

Wet-chemistry, sample preparation, and analytical workflows. Used by health and disease ecology projects, and for ecological sample processing.

Dry Lab / Computational

Computational analysis, data processing, and modelling. Connected workspace for researchers running camera-trap analysis, GIS work, and statistical modelling.

Field Equipment Centre

Shared field instrumentation: GPS collars, acoustic recorders, camera traps, soil coring equipment, and seismic sensors. Available to active projects via the Research Team.

Reserve Labs & Equipment

Lab and equipment booking is handled by the Research Team for active project applications.
