Tell us about your background. Where are you from? What brought you to Mpala? What have been some of your previous roles?
I come from Rumuruti, an area in Western Laikipia. I used to work as a room steward in a hotel in Rumuruti called El Paraiso. I had a friend who worked at Mpala, who advised me to pursue opportunities for employment here. I came to Mpala in 2016, so I have now been here for ten years. My aim is for my kids to be supported, through school fees and to support their livelihood.
What is your current role at Mpala? What are your goals?
I work as a room steward through the housekeeping department. I love my work so much, and this job has really helped me a lot. It has taught me a lot about receiving visitors, always with a smile on my face. My goals are to expand my knowledge about housekeeping and even catering, one day learning more about cooking and baking.
What is one of your favorite things about working at Mpala?
Mpala has become like a family to me, and has helped me a lot throughout my life. I love playing volleyball, football and participating in walks with my colleagues after work. I like Mpala because we receive a lot of visitors and students from everywhere around the world that I get to meet and work with.
What impact do you believe your time at Mpala had on your professional career?
Mpala has supported me in a way that I no longer lack anything, they have allowed me to be financially stable. Mpala has become a warm place for me, my colleagues have become like sisters to me, and we work very closely together as a team.
