Dr. Calvince Okoth – Livestock Manager

Dr. Okoth is a veterinary surgeon graduate of University of Nairobi with over 7 years’ experience of practicing Veterinary Medicine. He joined Mpala in January 2023, his roles include leading the livestock department consisting of one livestock supervisor and twenty five herders, active disease monitoring surveillance to ensure optimal health for livestock and wildlife, administering treatments and disease control in livestock and coordination with KWS for wildlife interventions, involvement and support students and researchers on livestock related research, implementation of best practices in livestock and wildlife management through benchmarking, reporting on livestock operations, budgeting and giving financial reports, livestock marketing and breeding management. All of these responsibilities are aimed at maintaining a healthy livestock herd primarily for research purposes. Being passionate about animal welfare and with the various opportunities available at Mpala, he intends to advance his veterinary knowledge and skills by active participation in research work with special interest in veterinary economics and one health approach for sustainable health systems.
