Tell us about your background.
I am a Maasai lady from Il Motiok Community group ranch, born and raised in Laikipia County. I schooled at Ilpolei primary school, scoring 324 marks in the year 2009. I was then selected to attend Daraja Academy, an NGO Secondary school that sponsors girls who perform well in primary school but come from a poor background and otherwise would not be able to afford school. Thanks to this scholarship, I got a B grade in my K.C.S.E year 2013, participated in a transition program through Daraja which is a program that helps girls to transit smoothly to universities and enlightened them with the knowhow of various courses and those doing well in the labour market. In 2015, I joined Chuka University, where I earned a degree in Bcom, later specializing in Human Resource Management. I graduated with First Class Honors (Hr option) 2019. In 2020, I got an internship opportunity in Laikipia County in the department of health (NTRH). Due to my hard work, I was offered an HR officer position and I saw the need to do a hr professional course to get certified as an hr professional. I am now a CHRP_K holder, after graduating in the year 2023. In November 2024, I moved from Laikipia County to Mpala, where I am currently working as a Hr officer. So far so good, the Mpala family is so welcoming and I am putting my best foot forward to deliver quality work and grow both career wise and in my personal life. Creating a good working environment to all staff in Mpala is my goal.
What is your current role at Mpala?
As the HR officer at Mpala, my goals are to ensure staff have a conductive working environment, encourage management to provide periodic trainings and development of staff to grow their capabilities and improve their quality of work, motivate staff to be good ambassadors of Mpala, and provide assistance to all Mpala partners as a continuity of good relations will in returns lead to Mpala’s growth.
What is one of your favorite things about working at Mpala?
Working at Mpala has given me a chance to interact with different research projects and an opportunity to appreciate the many ecosystems. Community involvement is top notch hence creating good interrelationship and harmony. I am pleased with the many projects that Mpala has done and is still doing to the neighboring communities.
What impact do you believe your time at Mpala will have on your professional career?
I believe Mpala will enable me advance my studies since I have plans to do masters degree in the coming year God willing.
