The George Small Scholarship began in 2014 to support disadvantaged students from our neighboring community in pursuing high school and technical college education. The program primarily targets students from our two immediate neighbors, Il Motiok and Lekiji community, and children from our Mpala community.
Mpala continues to support children with high-performance records and deserving of financial aid through the GSF Scholarship Fund. The fund has supported and impacted 45 high school students and 23 vocational training students. The program currently supports 10 ongoing students in high school, 1 student in vocational training, and 4 students in University.
GSS Impact Stories
Taine Mosiany, Cooperative University of Kenya, Bachelors of Tourism Management

As the first-born son in his family, Taine Mosiany understands the weight of his trajectory. Upon learning about the George Small Fund Scholarship, his priority became scoring top grades with hopes of paving the way towards higher education.
Taine’s final score in the KCSE exams, a B plain, answered his prayers and earned him the GSF Scholarship, covering all school-based costs to attend the Cooperative University of Kenya. With support from Mpala, he recently completed the first year of his Bachelors of Tourism Management.
“If it wasn’t for Mpala, I know more challenges would have faced me at home since my background is not that good.”

Like many students, the cost of education is a significant barrier to reaching one’s full potential. When school fees are delivered late, students are barred from taking exams and completing their coursework. This scholarship relieves the stress of meeting deadlines, allowing individuals to fully immerse themselves in campus life.
When reflecting on how the GSF Scholarship has impacted him, he said:
“I am very grateful… it doesn’t mean we were perfect to be chosen, but I am so grateful to be selected.”
Beyond bringing home a degree, attending university will create ripple effects on Taine’s family, setting a precedent for what’s possible.
Il Motiok Administration Block

We recently completed a renovation of an old building at Il Motiok primary school. The building, which serves a dual purpose as both the staffroom and the school library, was in a state of disrepair and required urgent intervention to improve its safety, functionality, and overall learning environment.
The successful renovation of the Il Motiok Primary School staffroom and library building marks a significant step toward improving educational infrastructure in the area. Continued investment in school facilities will further enhance the learning experience and promote academic success.
