​Containers, Tracks and Signs of Southern and East African Wildlife, by Chris and Tilde Stuart

Procedure

Allow students to go outdoors and, using their containers, collect a variety of dung recognized by different sizes and colors. Using the Stuarts’ field guide, identify which dung belongs to which animal.

Analysis and Follow-up Activity

1. Ask students why it’s important to be able to recognize different kinds of dung.

2. Make a poster of dung samples, and label each one with the name of the animal it comes from.
