Wildlife Health in Action

A two-day field course at Mpala Research Centre

Wildlife Health in Action invites undergraduate and postgraduate students to build practical skills in wildlife health and explore how field observations can inform conservation decisions.

Set within Mpala’s research landscape, the course connects wildlife health assessment and disease surveillance with the decisions facing conservation practitioners working across shared wildlife, livestock and human environments.

Participants will gain practical experience in:

  • Wildlife health assessment: observing and assessing wildlife health in a field setting.
  • Disease risk mapping: exploring how risks can be identified and mapped across a landscape.
  • Wildlife surveillance and ranger-based reporting: connecting field observations with information that supports monitoring and conservation.
  • One Health decision-making: considering the connections between wildlife, livestock, people and their environment.
  • Conservation recommendations: turning field evidence into recommendations that inform conservation action.
