JOB ADVERTISEMENT -SUMMER RESEARCH COORDINATOR

Mpala is located on the Laikipia plateau in north-central Kenya, just north of the Equator, northwest of Mt. Kenya. It covers 48,000 acres of savannah and dry woodland habitats and is bordered by Ewaso Ngiro and the Ewaso Narok rivers. The land hosts Mpala Ranch and Mpala Research Centre. We seek a dynamic, committed and dedicated individual to work as a summer research coordinator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Design itineraries and coordinate students’ activities as guided by the lead
  2. Professors. Inform students of the procedures for completing and submitting class work, such as lab reports.
  3. Have regular meetings with individual students to discuss progress.
  4. Be available to support student welfare needs (i.e., health issues; maintenance requests; food needs; coordination between instructors and housing, catering, research assistants, drivers, and other staff).
  5. Be a link between Students and Mpala Administration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Masters’ degree in a scientific field.
  2. Strong organizational skills.
  3. Well-developed intercultural competencies accompanied by superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications, presentation software.
  5. It is necessary that the successful candidate have a strong commitment to service excellence and student success.
  6. Ability to work well within a team environment to ensure the management of multiple projects concurrently with a high level of accuracy.
  7. The Coordinator must be able to work with staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
